2.7 million SketchUp models are now printable using Materialise Cloud

SketchUp’s 3D Warehouse and Materialise partner to streamline 3D Printing workflows. The Printables feature adds the STL file format to 3D Warehouse, the world’s largest repository of free, high-quality 3D content using the Materialise Cloud. This makes it easier for the millions of “makers” and other SketchUp users to create and share Printable models on 3D Warehouse.

The power of Materialise Cloud

The collaboration provides the 3D Warehouse community direct access to industry-leading technology of Materialise.
Materialise Cloud is a powerful service to generate high-quality STL files to ensure printability.

The fully automated process converts SketchUp models* to STL files, checks the STL files for errors most commonly associated with failed prints and repairs the errors in the STL files to ensure a watertight model.
* we support all SketchUp file types and many others file formats

Materialise Cloud Repair Engine first repairs the model geometrically, to ensure the highest precision, by
• inverting flipped triangles
• stitching bad edges
• filling holes
• trimming surfaces and unifying shells
If any errors remain, the Repair Engine applies the Shrinkwrap to the worst-quality files. The complex algorithm shrink wraps a thin layer around the model. This repairs difficult errors, while keeping details intact.

Effortless integration

By connecting to the Materialise Cloud API 3D Warehouse enables its users to download high-quality, printable STL files.

3D Warehouse users can flag uploaded SketchUp models as Printable. These models are processed by Materialise Cloud to make high-quality, printable STL files available to be downloaded from 3D Warehouse. SketchUp users can create and share their Printable model with the 3D Warehouse community. This facilitates the process of turning 3D models into physical objects.

Want to try it out? Flag your SketchUp model as Printable when uploading to 3D Warehouse or later by editing.
